Birds of the UK
Welcome to www.birdsoftheUK.com. This is a reference site for all regularly occuring birds of Great Britain.
If you’ve never considered Birdwatching as a hobby, hopefully this website will inspire you to go out and try to locate some of the birds featured here. Birding is a great way of getting out in the country and the excitement of finding and identifying a bird that you’ve never seen before is quite a buzz.
Whilst it’s possible to spend thousands on birdwatching equipment such as field scopes, binoculars and digital cameras, it’s not essential. You can start birdwatching with no investment at all (apart from a bit of your time maybe). However, a half decent pair of binoculars will greatly increase your enjoyment of these fantastic creatures and are pretty much essential when it comes to identifying some of them.
The list on the right provides links through to pages which cover the various bird families or groups. Those pages will then have links for each bird within the family or group. Each bird page will contain the following:
- An image of the bird
- A description of the bird and its behaviour
- More detail concerning its flight, voice and habitat
- Some tips on where to find the bird
- The opportunity for you to leave comments
The last point above is what will make this different from other online bird guides. If you know of a good place to find a particular bird or have any other tips, please share them by leaving a comment. We want to make this the best online resource for sharing birding knowledge.
Lastly, with around 250+ regular species, it will take some time to complete the UK bird list. Therefore, please be patient whilst this website grows and check back regularly to view the latest additions.
